Umbrella Movement Day 50

Day 50 of the Umbrella Revolution/Movement in Hong Kong. (Sunday 16 November 2014)
  • The Hong Kong Federation of Students representatives whom were denied entry to China yesterday have spoken at how Cathay Pacific staff informed them that their mobile boarding passes and their Home Return permits were not valid. The trio also claim that they heard airline staff say that the 'police are discussing'.
  • A report in the Mingpao newspaper (pro-Beijing) has suggested possible reasons for the revoking of Home Return Permits include: Possibility of committing crime, fake documents were used in the application process, mental illness.
  • The Chinese Immigration Authority reportedly has a list with over 500 students including current and former representatives from the Hong Kong Federation of Students, Scholarism and other student unions whom will be denied entry regardless of their involvement in the current protests.
  • Another Umbrella Marathon has taken place. The route was through all three protest sites (Admiralty, Causeway Bay and Mongkok) with the destination at the top of Lion Rock.
  • A number of anti-Occupy protesters have had verbal altercations with the pro-democracy camp and students in the protest sites throughout the day.
  • Police have investigated an alleged theft of $260,000 from a tent in Admiralty. No arrests were made. It is believed that the woman involved in this matter has a history of mental illness.
  • Yvonne Leung, a Hong Kong Federation of Students leader says that the police should not take leading role in enforcing the High Court's injunction orders.
  • Hong Kong has been ranked first in Good Magazine's '50 most inspiring cities in the world' because of Umbrella Revolution/Movement.
  • A protest rally against police brutality has taken place in Admiralty with protesters demanding officers receive a letter. No clashes were reported although a number of protesters verbally argued with police from behind the barricades.
  • The phone numbers of student activists and protester leaders Joshua Wong and Yvonne Leung have been posted on the streets of Shenzen, Guangzhou in the mainland.
