Day 42 of the Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong. (8 November 2014)
- Cantonese pop star Denise Ho Wan-see has given her support behind the pro-democracy movement despite a backlash against celebrities that are in favour of the Hong Kong protests.
- A student activist from the Scholarism group led by Joshua Wong has been refused entry to China through the Shenzen border for participation in the pro-democracy movement. The student whom has not been named has been safely repatriated back to Hong Kong.
- Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami has given praise to the pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong comparing them to the former residents of East Germany trapped by the Berlin Wall.
- Leung Chun-ying in an address to the press stated that: Beijing is fully informed of views from all sides in HK, including demands for civil nomination, 'No one has ever said that when NPC made the Aug 31 decision they didn't know there is an opinion in HK demanding civil nomination', and that he believes that Tung Chee-wa will handle HKFS' demand for meeting with Beijing officials well.
- A fashion designer in Beijing has been disappeared (arrested) by the Chinese authorities for creating a fashion line featuring yellow umbrellas.
- Some protesters plan to rally from Chater Garden between Central and Admiralty to the China Liason Office which is the Chinese government's highest representative in Hong Kong.
- A group of protesters in Admiralty have been involved in a scuffle and also have stated that they want to occupy the areas near the footbridges as well as entrances to the government buildings.
- Police are out in force in Tamar Park and at the entrances to the government buildings as some protesters have attempted to occupy the area
